I wanted to create something an internet-friend of mine (KrystelFlame, irc.sorcery.net, #help) could use as an icon for her page. Instead of creating one single crystal I could not hold myself and did a highly detailed set of crystals growing through the surface of a strangely rounded rock.

The Surfaces are all selfmade. The crystal is a combination of raytrace and the cellular material modelled via boxmodelling. The rock is a displaced cylinder. The background is composed via the smoke material.
