 "There are 3DSM Mailing-Lists"

3D Studio Max specific

Three lists have proven to be quite usefull. They are: AM3D, Engram and the 3D Cafe-list. There might be more, but these three are the only ones I know about so far.

  • "AM3D (Analyze my 3D) is a discussion list for 3D art and animation analysis.

The purpose of this list is for 3D enthusiasts to share URLS to their 3D art (both still images and animations) with the intention of receiving constructive criticism and valuable analysis and support from others. This list is open to all 3D enthusiasts, from novices to intermediate, advanced, and elite level 3D software users" (cited from the list).

The admin of this list is: Zero Z. Batzell Dean (zero@3DARK.COM)

You can access this list via: http://3dark.com/mailinglists/am3d/

The list has proven to be quite usefull for geting advice on images and anims. You won't find specific discussions concerning tech-questions nor how-tos here but you might learn by looking at what others do and what the critics say. Low traffic (1-4 / day). English language recomended.

  • "Engram Digital Productions is providing this (mailing list) service as a courtesy to the MAX community so that we may all benefit from the cumulative wisdom of the hard working professionals expanding the possibilities in computer graphics.

As the name implies, this list is intended for 3D Studio MAX discussion only. Fortunately, for the serious users among us, this will be enforced. If everyone cooperates, this discussion list will become an indispensable source of knowledge for the MAX community" (cited from the list).

You can access this list via: http://orion.engram.net/guest/RemoteListSummary/3DSTUDIOMAX

This list is circling around more technical questions like "how do I...". In most cases you get usefull answers to your questions and even "silly" questions are not banned. Medium traffic (5-10 / day). English language recomended.

  • "3DCAFE's Mailing List is intended to discuss your ideas, ask questions, find resources, etc., with other 3DCAFE users on various graphical topics and platforms. If you have questions or comments you can contact the list moderator Kelly Michels (kelly@3dcafe.com). General questions should go to support@3dcafe.com" (cited from the list).

You can access this list via: http://www.3dcafe.com/asp/listserv.asp

Heavy Metal here. You might get lost reading this list and it is fun to re-subscribe every once in a while (no, you are not always informed that you are dropped off the list). You will find all kinds of discussions here that concern 3DSMax, from "How to..." over "Is there a software..." to "Which hardware...". Heavy traffic (10+ / day). English language recomended.
