In Photoshop create a swirly monochrome map that never gets above half-transparent (RGB 127 127 127) and even then only in very, very thin lines. Use this as opacity map. Make a copy of this image and change the mode to RGB and make another weird swirly map, except in color, in correspondence with the opacity.
