"Gretje of Großefehn" is a former peat ship (Torfmuttje), originated from the year 1913, which was rebuilt as trip ship. In the summer months it is starting from the boat port Timmel to ship on the channels nearby the Eastfrisian meadows landscape
For skipper on own keel the municipality Großefehn entertains a boat harbour with 60 berths in Timmel for ships with a one length of max. 10,50 m and a depth of max. 1.10 m.
The historical land brewery "Ostfriesenbräu" with a beer museum considers in the old dairy in Bagband. The brewery restaurant is decorated affectionately with old relics of the brewing art. The dark beer brewed like Eastfrisian tradition, furthermore beer spirits and beer liqueur are served. Beer-typical meals are sold to it. Among other things can be admired in the museum like the smallest standing bottle closer rack in operation.

The area of the municipality Großefehn is ideal for biking. The Bike Hiking Group Großefehn/Timmel developed a various selection of bike hiking tours and labelled cycle paths of more than 200 km.
Furthermore there is the Frisian Route "Rad up Pad", "Deutsche Fehnroute" - a round course along the rivers and the dikes - over wide routes through the area of the municipality Großefehn as well as borderless moving on the "Dollard Route".

OLD NAVIGATION SCHOOL in TIMMEL
A house of the guest with history. In 18th and 19th century the inhabitants of this marshy country began to earn their living in ever-stronger extent in the shipping. Since primarily constantly high ships were lost in the North Sea through lacking navigational knowledge the Royal Navigation Schools were established.
The former navigation school was restored 1985. A part of the navigation school is available to all vacation guests and natives as ones as house of the guest. You find therein spaces to watch television, reading, and a small gastronomy. Changing exhibitions.
